So..Hey! My husband is out in the middle of nowhere working on a car and is making me ask you guys this, so my apologies if I've goofed up at all...

New engine with 4-speed transmission connected to it. How do you remove the engine from the transmission without it being in the car.

It's a 225 with a 4 speed manual.

If the engine and transmission aren't in the car, you just undo the bolts holding the engine and transmission together.............

I don't think that's the question, but I don't have a clue to the real question

if you are going to remove the engine from the car and leave the tranny in, loop a chain across the torsion bars to support the tranny when the engine is out. to help in getting the engine in and out, put a floor jack under the tranny to help get it at the right height.

If removing the engine and leaving the trans in the car, leave the bellhousing connected to the transmission.
If pulling the trans out from under the car, leave the bellhousing on the engine.

When you have an engine & trans assembly already out of the car, remove the trans from the bellhousing first, then remove the bell & clutch assy. from the engine as a second step.

Do you find that it's best to install motor w/ new clutch and bellhousing, and then the trans? If everything is already uninstalled, that is.

You can do the engine / trans assembly if you have a good "cherry picker"
and a rolling floor jack to catch the end of the trans and "steer it" as you come down.

60-62 A-Body cars are the hardest to do this way, 63 on up chassis are easy.
