Hi boys! Just finished my supersix set up, I think thats right. Anyway Offy dual intake w/ 2 carter bb single intakes, braided -6an lines, yep I built em, with the help of Kool Tools new tools. Check em out. Built all the lines in an hour. Kooltools.com I think or you can find it at Eastwood. Anyway, best $ I ever spent. So, no appearant vacuum leaks curb Idle at 600. I guess 550 is whats recommended but couldn't get it. fast idle 700, choke set to first step.

tranny 727 auto//engine 225/6

Hears the rub. Under light to moderate acceleration 0 to 15 mph shifts hard from 1st to 2nd., from 2nd to3rd smooth. Under normal acceleration 0-25mph shifts a little hard from 1st to 2nd 2nd to 3rd smooth and under heavy acceleration 0-35mph shift smooth all the way. Down shifts 50-75 heavy acceleration smooth down to 1st then up to 2nd smooth.

Any idreas??? What gives??

Katrina

Shifts from 1 to 2nd should always be furm, 2nd to 3 a softer shift, because
of the way the transmission shifts and how it is plummed inside.

Now unless your 1 to 2nd shift rattles your windows (bangs- not good
unless you got a drag car) on the up shift
it will 'very' depending on a number things. Fluid temp is one, kickdown
rod setting could be anouther, if a shift kit is installed, ect......

Guess it depends on what your after.....
some questions are in order:
Is the kickdown rod installed and adjusted right?
Has trans been rebuilt? if yes,
was a shift kit installed?
If not rebuilt has fluid and filter been changed
in the last few years?
Are you using a exturnal cooler?
Any work or testing done that you know of?

Assuming everything is hooked up right and the
trans is in good shape>

Kickdown at 50 to 70mph (down shifting just putting peddle to floor)
is a shift from 3rd to 2nd, the up shift will always be softer then
the 1st to 2nd shift.

Hard off the line (from stopped) full throttle 1st to 2nd will be a hard
shift (very furm) and may even cherp the tires on the shift.

Low speed kickdown (below 50mph) may drop to 1st gear from
3rd if at full throttle, just depends on mph, may only drop
to 2nd--- 1st to 2nd upshift should be shift just like off the line,
2nd to 3rd should be softer.

:D Thanks! That helps alot. Everythings seems to be in order then, it is just different than when I had just the single bb. Actually i think it was improperly set up with the single. . Seems like when it comes to classics it is almost always better to be your own mech.

Kat

How does the throttle pressure rod connect to the carbs? Is it a snap-on / fixed connection point or does it have a long slot that bottoms-out before appling motion?

It sounds like you need less throttle pressure at light throttle and full throttle pressure is set correctly.

The factory had a number of different linkage systems and the later ones used a slot up by the carb, this allowed the throttle pressure to be set at light pressure and stay at that setting during off idle and light throttle movement. Once you start to apply more throttle opening, the slot bottoms-out and the throttle pressure increases quickly to get full T. pressure at full throttle open. You may have to readjust or add this feature to your new set-up.

Yep, Doc's got you pointed in the right direction. Your kickdown linkage might need a little reworking. The relationship between the full swing range of the transmission kickdown lever and the carb throttle(s) usually isn't linear/1:1, and you may need to make or modify some bellcranks in the system to get everything to behave correctly. Can you show us some good, clear photos of your setup, especially how the transmission kickdown linkage is arranged?

I tend to agree with both Dan and doc here, I had hoped to hear
a little feedback from you about the low throttle response Kat......
and what may or may not have been done to the trans.
