I have a 66 Coronet post and a collection of slants and turbos, just thought I may have some fun with it. The car has no options, just auto trans and heater .Could the weight diff between similiar equipt A's and B's be about 300 lbs ? I have a 8.75 for it also 904 and 727's to choose from.This would be a street- strip car . Thanks ..Dee ..

We have had a couple B bodies at the Slant races, but no serious race cars.

I have always wanted to do a Slant B or E body just to be different. :D

Stick with a 904 with V-8 guts in it. It will last forever without the extra weight and drag of the 727.

Your looking at about 500 lbs more for a B over A as far as weight.
So guest-a -mation is about 5 to 6 tenths slower.
I agree with using the 904.

I enjoy things that are different also .There are enough parts aroung here to assemble this thing without spending much.I dont think I could lighten this thing up much , It's already a plain jane model . I saw a /6 three speed floor shift E-body this past summer,cool car.

Yep, you'd be amazed how much weight you can get rid of with a hole saw. Also, look the car over real good and get rid of un-necessary nuts, bolts, brackets, etc. You can take out a decent amount for free without compromising the car or your wallet. :lol:

Paul Olds runs a good looking B Body that is very competitive. I have seen it several times at Redding slant6 races and each time it runs faster and faster. There should be a photo of it on one of the previous photo "session" from Redding from 2006. Wayne from Chico

Going to start with a 8.75 install first .I will have questions regarding suspension set up,hope you dont mind.I haven't had a performance vehicle with a hood since 86, thats when I owned a 69 mach 1 ,460 4 speed,Original S code 390 car.sold it and bought a 65 A-100 pickup.had A-100's ever since.Are Woodburn and Redding the closest races to Vancouver BC ? Thanks..Dee.

Go ahead with whatever questions you have. Woodburn is closest to BC, but it's not a points race. Medford, OR is next closest followed by Redding, CA or maybe the Eurkea race.

You shouldn't have much trouble putting the power to the ground with a B-body. The Mopar Performance Chassis Manual has plenty of bracket car info. If your engine isn't making a lot of power you may not need anything beyond a good set of street tires.

When Paul was up last weekend, we took both cars across the scales.
His Slant Six Belvedere has 200# on my Slant Six Valiant. We both had full tanks.
We checked rear axle weight also. Mine was ~60# lighter in the rear. Paul has a trunk mounted battery, and a larger rear axle.

The 74 Valiant is that heavy! :shock: We both put the pedal down. The major difference in our power plants is: I have a single feather duster exhaust, he has Dutra Duals. Both cars pull hard in the mid-range. His just keeps on going.
Paul also has slightly shorter gears. That helps a bunch. He runs about a second quicker than I do in the 1/4.

Paul's engine pulls to much higher RPM than mine does. His is still pulling strong at his 4200 RPM shift point. My Engine wheezes to a shift at 4000-4100 RPM.

Both running Holley 4bbl Carbs. Both essentially stock engines otherwise.

Aha! Free up that exhaust! But we knew that, huh? :wink:

I think mine was something like 3780. I just turned 50 :shock: so CJ will have to give the correct number. :D
My "Dutra Duals" were actually cut and welded by a friend who works at Marathon Coach.

Mine came in right around 3580.. That was with the two of us in there. I need to write stuff down... :oops:

We're going to have to head for the scales again! I'll take the Valiant down to racing trim, empty the trunk, and see what it weighs. Probably knock another 50# or so off of it.

My big block C-body wagon weighs in at 3450 lbs with a full cell. Just to point out how much weight you can take out of a vehicle. There was close to 100 lbs in under coating alone that we chipped and scorched off, cut out the trunk area, fiberglass hood and bumper, the list goes on.

Greasmnky, are you looking for the closest slant only races? Woodburn is far. Do you race Mission? It's our favorite track and run like a Swiss watch.

Mission is 1 hr away. We used to race 1/8 mile in Salmon arm and Kamloops.Just wanted to see some ss cars.... Replaced the 383/auto in my A-100 with a /6 4speed o/d.With the 383 and driver the A-100 was 3640 .The Coronet should be close to that, dont want to hack this car up,found it sleeping in a cow barn.There is a pic of it on the Moparts forum,cars in yards. top of page 4, heading says 66Coronet deluxe,blue in color ...Thanks .. Dee.
