I have been told that the valve transfers the heat from itself to the head when it is closed. The longer its closed, the more heat transfer.

Yep, water jacket around it.

The Head is off. Not good.
#6 Cylinder , The Valve and Seat are cupped. The Seat is way low. #2 isn't too happy either. We Lapped in all the others and they look remarkably good.
Now I'm tossed as to what to do. This is my 16 year olds first Fix'r Upper. All expenses are on his dime. He's still in High school obviously and only works part time in the Summers.
I can get a full 318 engine Trani, radiator, 8 1/2 rear ..the whole shmere. But i really wanted to and am giving mechanics lessons on bringing this non running 6 back to life.

I was hoping to get some compression back to this engine for the price of a few exhaust valves.
Certainly not the $ for a Head job. I wonder what a sympathetic shop would charge to literally take a dirty Head and replace 2 seats.

To bad you are so far away... I have some good used heads that could be cleaned-up, lap the valve seats and run it.
Look around your area, there may be a better used head around that can be purchased cheap, cleaned-up and used.

Ahh, you're ONLY in Ca. If you were a nice guy you'd just drive it over. LOL

I have friends that Race Modifieds who have tons of friends that ran 6 cylinders in the Figure 8's ( they've since gone to 8 cylinders). He made some calls for me. The famous quote of the weekend went something like. " I just through out all my 6 cylinder stuff 6 months ago. I had rebuilt heads just sitting in oil and I got tired of looking at them."
What you mentioned is what I'm looking for. Something that would work well with just a Clean up Lapping.
