Looking on Summit for new leaf springs (I want 5 leaf) for my Duster, it specified different springs for left and right sides. I was under the impression that both sides are the same part. Incorrect?

Also, all they sold on Summit were Mopar Performance springs. Are there better brands available out there? I checked Espo and couldn't find any listed. Any other sources?

Espo has the springs, but you need to call them, they are apparently not listed on Espo's site.

Here is another website with springs:
http://www.generalspringkc.com/leaf_spr ... index.html

JC Whitney has springs, all the way up to 6 leaf, for $69 - $109 per side.

I believe the left and right differences are for high-HP drag cars only.

Yeah, drag cars sometimes use a stiffer spring on one side than on the other to counter body twist under severe torque. On a street car, the left and right springs are the same. Here's another vote for buying from ESPO.

Espo made springs for my 74 Dart. Very nice and a great price.
They made one heavier leaf for the right side to compensate for the torque.
Mine are 6 spring although the 6th one is pretty short.

Can anybody measure their bolt spacing on the rear spring shackles? Mine are after market and are very long. My rear end needs to come down to do a good front end alignment.

Slant Six Dan, do you have the measurement?

If not maybe somebody can crawl under their car with tape measure and give me the distance between the centers of the bolts.

Thanks!

Well, its not just "stiffer." The Mopar factory 440/426 Hemi asymmetrical leaf spring setup has two extra HALF-leaves (just extending forward of the axle) on the right rear, and longer full-leaves on the left hand side to get the same actual spring *rate* on both sides. The difference is that the stiffer front half on the right hand side acts a little like a 4-link suspension and plants the right rear to counteract engine torque on the rear axle housing, which tries to lift the right rear off the pavement. My '69 Coronet R/T has an open differential, but it doesn't cook the right rear exclusively- its well balanced and it pretty much depends on the pavement as to which rear tire breaks loose first. My 318 powered 4-door Satellite, on the other hand, has identical left and right springs and if the right rear loses traction it will spin all day long without bothering to actually launch at all. And the right rear spins first 99% of the time, you practically have to have the left on grass or ice to get it to spin first :-/
