Well assuming my speedo is calibrated, which I haven't verified yet, I got 17 MPG out of my last tank. This was driving it while in the process of still tuning up the engine, and for about the first half of the tank, my carb was way rich and my timing was retarded. I still haven't adjusted the valve lash yet or done the HEI conversion, but hopefully when I get back from Edwards AFB next weekend I'll be able to get that done. I'm pretty happy, given that it's still got the automatic with no overdrive gear. Can't wait to see what I'm getting when it's all tuned up and I have the A833 installed.

If your rear axle ratio is indeed 3.55 as you previously calculated, then yeah, 17mpg mixed in-tune and out-of-tune is quite excellent. Do check that speedometer, 'cause if the correct drive pinion wasn't installed for the 3.55 ratio, your odometer will be recording a lot more miles than you're actually going.

As for Edwards AFB, there are people who'd argue you'd have better results with Edwards AVS, and some people even thing Edwards TQ is better!
(lame Carter carburetor jokes :o )

Do you have a 4 speed to install yet?

Not yet. I've had a few other expenses come up (like frying the alternator in my Toyota) that've kept me from even finishing the tune up yet. I'm hoping before the end of the summer I'll have everything I need and a few days to do the swap. Problem is if I take a weekend, the auto shop here is closed on Sundays so that takes a day's worth of work away from me :?

I understand expenses coming up. I've got an 11 yr old and a 15 yr old "expense" that keeps coming up. Wouldn't trade'm for anything, but it sure cuts into the hobby.

I was just curious, wondered if you had looked into the stuff I had sent you.
