I have '62 Valiant and I am looking to make some minor (read cheap) performance adjustments to its engine 225 engine.
I am sure this has been covered to death on this forum before, but can someone direct me to some cheap, simple suggestions to increasing the performace of my new baby?

Certainly a lot of possibilities exist.

Probably a "Super Six" conversion (utilizing a 2 barrel carb and intake taken from a mid-70's slant six) is one of the cheapest ways to start. These can usually be had for under $100.

Having the head milled in order to raise the compression ratio will give you some good bang for the buck.

Steeper rear end gears will give you a kick, 3.23 or so.

Nitrous, if you're looking for an occasional blast down the strip.

From there on in you pretty much follow the formula used by hot-rodders everywhere: Bigger carbs (4bbl), headers, camshaft, head porting, etc.

most likely he has 3.23 gears now. Are you sure it is a 225?
Big torque difference between stock 170 vs 225.
Do a search on this forum-- many topics to help--
but first -- if your car is new to you-- do some basic tune-ups-- adjust valves, spark plugs, cap/rotor-- use quality parts -- once again search as SSDan has posted many times on parts to use with part numbers etc...
