I am moving house real soon and was moving all the stuff around in the shed. I got to the back corner where I have 3 alloy motors sitting. I noticed the hand stamped serial numbers on the lower side near the gearbox end of the engine and began to wonder if the alloy engine was different from the start of its production life to the end of its production life.
The three are numbered:
580 (from a 61 Valiant hardtop that I still have)
20836 (Came from a wrecking yard in Washington, wasnt in a car)
56143 (came from a 62 lancer in Georgia)

Anyone know if they changed the design at all. and if they did what was it.

I don't believe there were casting changes, but Doctor Dodge would be the authority on this board.

If you get interested in selling any of those blocks/engines, please let me know.

All the best,

Lou

The number stamped onto the lower rear engine flange edge is the production sequance number, each Alm SL6 block was numbered as they came out of the die cast machine.

You have a good selection of alloy blocks, one is a real early unit (820), one is "mid-run" and the third is real late production.

The only real difference in the bolcks will be the undrilled, angled oil feed passage ways going from the main oil gallery to each lifter bore. (12 of them)
My guess is that the early engine has these bosses.
I would be interested to know if the 20836 engine has them.
