Friend of mine would like to have an 83 Plymouth Scamp I have and is willing to trade a slant 6 79 2 door coupe Aspen for it. The good - slant 6/904, Super Six, buckets, console, side and rear window louvers, and Magnum 500 wheels. The bad - needs quarter panel work and possibly other rust repair. Sounds like a good deal to me!

Any trade deal is fine, it's up to the owners to determine how much they value their side of the swap.

But... Volare/Aspen coupes were made in pretty large numbers, while the Scamp pickup was relatively rare. The Scamp may be worth considerably more than the Aspen (either now or 10 years from now).

That year Scamp was the Plymouth version of the Dodge Rampage - a pickup based upon the FWD Omni/Charger/Horizon 2 door coupe. The Scamp was a one year only deal and never sold very well. My son tells me that something like 3000 or so Scamps were made and of that number 1380 were the GTs (which this one is). Basically the GT was identified by a rear facing hood scoop and some decals.

That's cool, I never recall seeing one. I do recall the TC3s.

If the condition of both were equal, I'd rather have the Scamp.

I'd LOVE to have a Scamp or a Rampage in good shape. I don't know what it's rated for cargo, but it would make a nice, practical support vehicle for for my Darts... I envy your opportunity!

I second the 79 aspen choice. as long as the cowl isnt rotted out and the framerails are good.

I was finally able to look at the Aspen I'm considering trading for the 83 Scamp sitting in my yard. Engine-wise the slant starts right up (it's a 74 engine) and seems to run really well. It's got the Super Six set-up on it - a definite plus :D It's got the side window louvers which I understand are pretty hard to find and a set of 14 inch Magnum 500s with new tires on the fronts. Oh and the front end was rebuilt before it was taken off the road a couple of years ago. Downside is mainly the body - pass door lots of rust out at the bottom and right below the gas fill area a complete rust-out about 4 in wide and 10 or so inches long  I've never seen anything like that before and might not pass inspection here in VA (tag it as an antique and no inspection. There appears to be no problems with the frame rails. Driver's bucket and dash pad have your customary splits but does have a buddy seat. The Scamp also has some rust-out issues here and there with the body and needs some other work to make it roadworthy. I'd consider them about equal as far as problems go. He wants the SCamp so it looks like a deal to me. Even if I decided to part the Aspen out, I believe I'd be ahead since the Scamp is a basic L Body with a pick-up bed on it and a FWD to boot  Give me a RWD anyday 8)
