 If you're anywhere near our neck o' the woods, but just can't swing the Nats for any reason, we're having a show/race/party/picnic at NorthStar Dragway just north of the DFW area on August 11th. The high price of fuel is keeping a lot of us home this year, when we had the Mickey Rooney/Judy Garland inspiration: "Hey kids, let's put on a show" NorthStar is a fine NHRA 1/8 mile track literally right on I-35 in Denton Texas. If we get 10 cars or a 1,000 won't matter, but I can guarantee a good party and a friendly atmosphere. NOW, if I can get eight Slant cars in the lanes that want to race, I could probably come up with some stuff to hand out as prizes, maybe even a few bucks, no promises there. More info can be obtained at www.cowtownmopars.com

Hey Rick, I'll give it a shot, if for no other reason than giving the other slanters someone to beat up on... :)

I've never, ever raced before. What do I need to do to get my Swinger past inspection? What do I need (helmet?)?

Too bad I don't have time to get my 8 3/4" and 3.23's in there by August... Know anybody (local) who can put one together for cheap? I've got all the parts...

Vynn, it would be great to have you come out my friend. Also, give Mike Miller a call at 817-831-1760. He's one of us, and he'll do you a first rate job. Even if you're the only Slanter that wants to race, we're having a "Street" class. Licenced, inspected, untrailered vehicles. No tank tops or short pants, if you run faster than 8.59, you'll need a helmet. RICK

Dang! It'll be August, so I was hoping to wear a tube top and a thong... <sigh>. Oh well, you made my wife happy. :)

Any rules on leaks or overflow bottles, anything like that?

 Hey Vynn, If you're still serious about that tanktop/short-shorts thing you might check out the bikini contest. Let me restate: although it's not on the flyer, if I can get eight Slanters that what to race, the club will come up with some goodies to race for. North-Star is 1/8th mile so you won't have to thrash too hard on the 'ol rig. Cowtown Mopars DOES NOT consider the Slant crowd to be second class citizens, an impression that some other shows can't excuse. Come and enjoy the fun.

NHRA rules apply..... no leaks and must have overflow bottle. That means you have to leave the a/c off!!!

We have had several donations made and will have a little bit more cash going into the coffers for the race classes. We also have a couple of items from Painless, a drum of Sunoco race gas and many other goody items piling up.

It's lookin' better all the time!

Looks like Aaron and I might be able to get up there with the "Dartster".
If so, I'm bringing some tools, a timing light, and a notebook. I hope to come away from this event with a little better running car and a lot more knowledge.

Keep your fingers crossed that it doesn't rain more, like it has been lately.

Jerry

I just got back from a local cruise-in, and it looks like five or six of us members of the Heart of Texas Mopar Club near Waco will be headed up north to Denton next Saturday. :D No one is bringing a car to race, but we just wanted to see some cool cars and watch a little flying rubber.

See ya there,
Jerry

Hey, you guys with slant sixes, you left us hanging out to dry...Image
It seems we and Billy (Wondernaut) from OK were the only ones there.

Seriously, though, my son Aaron and I came all the way up from near Temple and had a great time. We finally met some of you that have been aware of his Dart Sport rebuild over the past several years.

There were some fantastic cars, friendly people, and plenty of sun. Aaron even took his '74 Dart Sport slant six down the track a couple of times. I think he has been bitten by the racing bug. After his first-ever pass on a dragstrip, he comes back all grins and says, "That was awesome!" - even though it was only 12.67 / 53 mph.

We're glad we could make it, just wish you were a little closer. Thanks for making us feel welcome.

Jerry

Glad you guys got to go and have fun, Jerry. Bummer that the other Slanters bagged out. This seems to be a trend these days.

Too many people watching golf on TV or playing video games I guess...

If you ask my wife, she'll tell you I spend too much time in front of the TV.
However, Saturday's trip up to Denton was one of those opportunities I did not want to miss out on. First, Aaron and I trailered his car up to Dallas to have lunch with my older son and spend the afternoon with him. He works crazy hours with Halliburton and doesn't get home very often. Then, we headed up to Denton for the "Mini Nats" to spend the rest of the afternoon among other Mopar nuts. The look on Aaron's face after his first time down the track was worth all the effort - even dealing with the stifling heat. Heck, we even had a trailer tire shred on us at 10:30 pm on the way back home.
The group with Cowtown Mopar Club did a great job putting this thing on, not having any more time than they did to get it organized. We got to meet some nice folks, and Aaron got an offer for a FREE transmission for his next Duster project. Not a bad trip, I'd say.

Jerry
