Hey guys, I am new to the Slant 6 world, but not to the 6 cylinder world. Been working on Jeeps for around 8 years now.

It is a '76 225. I have done some research and am doing more but have a few questions.

It is the 100hp version correct? 78+ had the option of the 2bbl carb, are these common? Havent had a chance to get to the JY to see if any have them.

So far we have done Accel 8mm wires, Bosch platinum plugs and a borgwarner Dist cap. Will a 2bbl manifold/carb, dual exhaust, and a high flow muffler be a decent set of upgrades. At this time there are no plans for much more than that. Theres enough other things to be done on the truck.

PS, it is a D100, and it has 120k miles on it.

2 bbl intake/carbs were offered on 76-78 model chryslers. Known as the super six, needed are the carb/intake/kickdownlinkage,and possibly gas pedal/cable to convert. Electronic ignition is recommeded if not installed .(distributer, ecu). I'm getting ready to do my 63 v200 wagon to this super six, and am EXCITED!!

Welcome on the board. The 2bbl setup was offered in North America from '76-'82, actually, not just through '78. Try to get an iron intake rather than aluminum; both kinds were made over the years, but the aluminum ones are problematic (cracks, porous castings, bad welds, assorted other leaks). The 2bbl setup makes a nice improvement in driveability, performance, and -- often -- mileage. It uses a Carter BBD, but for some reason the BBDs Chrysler specified aren't notoriously problematic like the ones AMC specified (and Jeepers love to hate). You don't need a new gas pedal on your '76, but you do need the shorter throttle cable and (if your truck's an automatic) the complete kickdown linkage for the 2bbl setup, 'cause it's totally different than the 1bbl kickdown.

Electronic ignition is already present on a '76, though for a performance increase you may want to look into the HEI upgrade, and it may pay you to recurve the distributor. You may well also find those Bosch platinum spark plugs aren't anywhere near as good as all the hype, see for example here.

Other mods you may want to think about doing are the fuel line mod for improved hot starting and idling, and the electric choke kit for better (and adjustable) cold starting and running. And of course you'll want to pick up the factory service manual.

Low restriction exhaust? You bet. Lots of options for how to go about it, depending on your goals and budget. I like Dutra Duals.

Is this D100 a Federal or California truck, and where are you presently located? There may be some modifications you can make to the emission control system to improve performance, driveability and mileage.

HEI is now definately on the list, and I like the Dutra's.

Is there an easy way to tell if it is a fed truck? It is a Colorado truck, but it is a shade of forest service green, IDK if they were concidered "federal" ttrucks.

Colorado truck is probably a High Altitude variant of Federal. There's a dataplate somewhere under the hood...might be a label on the underside of the hood itself, or might be a stamped metal plate under the (removable) windshield wiper cowling, or might be both.
