Died. Just died. I'm fairly sure its ignition, sence its a new battery, showing a good voltage, and all other electronic parts are working.
68 Dart, cruising close to home, when I noticed the wheel get real heavy. All other electronics are working, just wont spark (Tryed to see a spark but there is none).
Any tests or tricks anyone knows?
It is using a Petronix electronic ignition with an accel coil, and brand new MSD wires.

Just checked the coil, and I'm not seeing any voltage their either

Sounds like a dead coil. try
installing a borrowed coil and see if your engine starts.

This happened to me too. The problem was the Protonx unit is loosing ground. did you use the lock washers that came with the kit. If you did just throw a little lock tight and tighten the hell out of it

I don't remember getting lock washers with the kit. I know there is none on the coil.
The weird thing is, it suddenly died and now woant start. Is it possible the kits dead? ANy one had a problem with the Petronix kit and the Accel Super Stock coil?

Also, how do you measure voltage over the coil. Is it from + to - on the coil, Or is it from the nuts to ground. I have 12 at the +

I did try the original coil. It was working when the Super stock was installed. Same thing. Starter turns the engine, but no attempt to ignight

Which Pertronix kit?

and

what's the resistance of the new coil vs the old coil (ohms)

If it's the basic pertronix kt, a low resistance coil would eventually fry the pertonix

Its the older kit from Petronix, the Ignitor. As for Ohms, I didn't check. I am leaning towards a fried Petronixs though in my causes

Update: This is bugging me. I put in the old points set up, and still nothing. The turns the engine, all other electrical is operational... yet the engine dosn't catch.

As I'm thinking, could it be the resistor or the alternator regulator? Its about the only thing I can see on the main circuit, unless its wiring

Are you sure the dizzy is turning when you spin/crank the engine over.

Be sure there is voltage on the + wire to the coil ( in the crank/start possion plus the run possition with the key/ignition).

You mean, check to see if the rotors spinning in the distributor?

Zipper - yes, something could of happened to the gear at the end of the distributor shaft - if it shattered, the shaft won't spin, so the pertronix wouldn't get triggered to create the spark in the first place.

Unless your distributor is at a point in the rotation where the points are closed (making contact), you should be able to measure 12 volts on BOTH the + and - sides of the coil (with the negative cable of the meter connected to a good ground).

If you do not see 12v on the "-" side of the coil, bump the engine over slightly. If you still don't see 12v there, then either the points are sticking shut, the distributor isn't turning, or you have an open coil.

Checked the distributor; it spins
The coil has 12 on the positive and negitive
I even when as desperate as trying a diferent ballest resistor pulled of a 65 valliant from the junk yard. Sill noting. I am stumped. Its about time to call in the pro, unless theres any other sujestion.

Some did ask if I checked the ignition switch, but that is something, again, I have no knowlage about. Sounds like I'm pulling at straws by now

I think thats less of an occasional thing though, and more of an all the time thing

I have tranced 5 volts back from the coil, to the ballast resistor... the only thing before the resistor is the ignition switch though

With bad wiring, you can have volts but no amps.........

For testing, run a jumper wire from the positive post of the battery to the + connection of the coil.

If it runs, start working backwards (don't run for long, as you're bypassing ballast)
