 Post subject: Napa/Echlin MO3000

I went to my local Napa store to order a mo3000 and after a week of waiting they told me that they couldnt get it,so rather than arguing I went to Napaonline.com and found the part no. and description listing it as a hi-performance rotor button.I ordered 3 rotors ,was in stock and shipped the next day.Great.
So my box arrives today and I open up to find an older Napa/Echlin box(blue/orange/white box) and two modern Napa/Echlin boxes,all three with the correct mo3000 pt.no.
I open the older box first and find a dark tan rotor with an extended tip,cool.I then open one of the newer boxes and find a white rotor that has a wider body and standard length tip,I open the other new box and find another rotor just like the second one.I look at all three boxes again and they all have the mo3000 pt.no.The only numbers that I found on the rotors was a very tiny 6 on the extended tip rotor and there were no numbers on the standard tip rotors,only the Echlin logo which was not present on the extended tip rotor.
What gives Napa?I plan on E-mailing Napa but Im sure it wont get me any where.
The funny thing is,the extended tip rotor doesnt look as high quality as the standard rotor which is beefier in all aspects.

The white ones with short tips are MO13s. The tan one with extended tip is an MO-3000. Looks like NAPA's fall into mediocrity continues to accelerate...hooray for all of us. :roll:

UPDATE 10/29/07: The MO-3000 is back in production and once the supply pipeline gets full, around early November 2007, you will once again be able to order these from NAPA. Just be sure the one you get is tan with the long tip.

As for rotor durability: I've been using the MO-3000 for about 15 years now and the only time I ever had one fail was when its tip smacked into the overly-large/improperly-ground contact of an Echlin cap...about 14 years ago when I quit using Echlin caps! On rotors of all brands, I've found they frequently come out of the box with not much tension to the stainless steel spring. I like to give the tip rivet a good hard squeeze with vise-grips to improve the spring tension, before installing them.

This has been going on for a couple years now, I had the icing on the cake a month back when I ordered one of the thinner pilot bushings for the 'problem solver auto to manual unfinished crankshaft pilot hole' jobs...
First the guy said that Balkamp doesn't make them any more, then it was...it'll cost more than the bushing to ship it...then he ordered it...
The Napa told me the order was in, then the box was totally wrong (wrong part, wrong number, "No I have a Plymouth...got look in the yard!!! I don't own a Chevy, nor do I want one at the moment!!!). Ten minutes later and a quick search led to an inept stock boy that put my bushing on the 'shelf' in the back...

I'm glad I have one 'good' store in town that will take time to order what 'you' want even if it's a special order (want a melling timing set instead of a dynagear knock off...one phone call and they'll call in two days to let you know it's in and let you inspect it before you pay... need standard-hygrade parts...got 'em...what??!? guy behind the counter has built a couple of slants for buddies in the past, you betcha he knows what you're talking about...)

Thanks for the extra info Dan,Ill call my other parts store tomorrow for the Accel part. As far as Napa goes,the store in our town has always been lackluster at best,just a bunch of guys waiting for retirement that have absolutely no interest in automobiles.The only thing that keeps them in buissness is that they are located beside the local state hiway shop and gives them enough buissness to barely keep the doors open.

I ordered a 130319 and guess what? When it came in it was a standard rotor button not an extended tip.Looks like I bought the last extended tip rotor botton in the civilized world.

Yuck. :-( I know a couple of engineers over at Standard Motor Products (who have owned Echlin for awhile now). I'll phone a few of 'em and see if I can do any persuading. Stay tuned.
