Hi guys,

Just a few questions about the 265. I see that Oz has 1 for sale.
I own a 68 Barracuda coupe that I want to drag race.
1. are performance parts available?
2. is there a forum for these engines where I can get more info about building them for drag racing?
3. How do I adapt an 833 to one?
4. What is the potential for one of these to run injected alchohol?

thanks for any help.

Gary

PS -there is a guy here at my local drag strip that has a 64 mustang with a 300cu.in. sl6 full of Clifford performace Products. Including dual 4 barrels(500cfm) with a 200 shot of NOS under both. He runs a 5 speed. It was a world record holder in 74-75 and originally sponsored by Clifford.
He has put ALOT of Money into it and has run just 15.56 with it. Still has bugs in the system. He figures it should be running 10's by the time he is done. To tell you the truth he shifts and drives like an old lady, I think he is scared of it. Every time he launches the wheels start to go in the air and then he lets of the gas and wham down he comes. He is one of these guys who has a big mouth with a big wallet to back it up.

I would love to build a 6 that would run 11's and kick his ass at the track!

The 265's came with one of 2 bellhousing patterns. The high perf ones had the same pattern as a 318. The rest had a Borg-Warner pattern. I do not know if they made a bell for the 833 or not.

I've known many people lke your friend who have built really fast cars only to be too scared to drive them.

If he's running 15's, you only need to build a 14 second Slant to kick his azz. Piece of cake.

I've got a box stock '80 Volare longblock in my '66 that has been 14:80's on a 100 shot.

That would toast his marshmellows now, wouldn't it?

Actually that is not quite true.. the HiPo engines (SixPack and RT) where not the S block or 727 pattern, they were all the normal Borg Warner pattern..(at least that I have ever heard of.)
the 265 (and a bunch of 245's too) that where the S blocks where mainly used in Taxi and Police cars as a matter a fact :P

You can modify a small block bellhousing to suit the normal B/W bolt pattern though by welding on some extra pieces on either side (The top couple bolts still line up, the Hemi pattern is just wider then the Small Block bolt pattern..)

Hmmmm, you were the one who told me about the HP's having the LA bolt pattern Oz. Maybe I'm confused though, I am getting older.
