64 Valiant, pushbutton tranny. The rubber stopper on the trans fluid dipstick goes well inside the tube before it seats. Is this correct? Or was it supposed to stop at the top but has shriveled and shrunk with age, and therefore goes into the tube? Need to know so I can get an accurate reading.
Thanks

My rubber stopper ends at the metal cap on top.

My dipstick ( part number 2204643) has the following specs

distance between add & full mark = 5/8"
distance between full & first swedge (below rubber stopper) = 13 3/4"
distance brtween full & top of cap = 14 5/8"

Thanks for all that info.
I'm still unsure though. I don't have a metal cap on top of the rubber stopper. Does that metal cap stop at the top of the tube when fully inserted?
Maybe I need a new dipstick. I'll look into that.

Yes

You could go by the 14 5/8" length then.........
