for those asking about Ford ratios around here 3.27 seems real popular
in the smaller pickups/Exploders.
Is that dislexic? I have seen them 3:72 :?:

The conversion Ujoint finally got here Friday. They sent the wrong Ujoint in the right box TWICE!

Fired the driveshaft in the car at 7 am this morning and went for a lil test drive.....

The car stops really well....good front/ rear bias with the stock 74 disc brake master and combination valve.

The 3.55 gears seem perfect. The car leaves really hard ....I get about 30ft of rubber on both tires in 1st and a bark on the 1-2 shift.

My 14"Ansen sprints just clear the calipers.

Now I just have to figure how to configure my Oklahoma trip to include StL..... make the Possum drink Red Ale....

I guess you got started before me on your swap Sandy, but I gotta hurry up, I miss driving my slant!

I have my 7.5 3.73 posi ford rear mocked up with my new big bolt pattern wheels under my 73 swinger. I still have to tack weld my perches at correct pinion angle, take the rear out, weld for real, and rebuild the drums (ford 10") with all new parts that have been sitting by my bed for two months. Then I can put it back together on the leaves. Then I can drop the car and get a hybrid driveshaft made out of my junk ones.

The thing I have been dragging my feet on the most is the shock mount/ u-bolt plate. The 7 1/4" rear I took out is smaller than the 2 13/16" diameter ford rear. I found U-bolts at advance, but I am procrastinating on modifying my plates to take the wider U's. I am thinking about slotting the holes on one side to allow a wider U, but I don't want to sacrifice the strength of the original piece (with a rolled lip on the orig. design) I was gonna put the plates on the bandsaw and just slot the holes with four paralell cuts all the way to the edge. I dunno another way short of fabbing a new piece. Maybe I should just do that, couldn't take all day, but the spring perch would be a pain in the a$$ to duplicate.

Any ideas or options?

Hacking away in Philly

Kevin

Can you get a pair of 8-1/4" plates and slot them the other way? 8-1/4" plates would be for 3" tubes.
