well i got my 86 ram running good but now i have no vac. advance so for now i just set it at 22deg. i was told i wont get any advance with the comp thing i have so what do i need to do? if i get a dist. with a vac advance will that fix it and if so what kind and how much do they run ? thanks guys

I thought the computer controlled all the advance on these, does your distributor have a VA pod?
(I have to say that I don't know much about these "late" systems)

Make sure that you are getting manifold vacuum to the vacuum sensor on the computer. If the hoses are the original thin plastic they are definitely brittle and leaking after 16 years. Also check the temp sensor and carb switch, if they aren't telling the computer that the engine is hot and the throttle is open, then no advance. The advance on my 1987 is also a little weak and I am wondering what is up with it. Once I get past the mandatory emmissions check (10 more years!) then I'll junk the computer and go with a mech/vacuum advance distributor.
