Hi,
New to the forums, I just got a '72 Plymouth Valiant 4 door, slant 6,auto trans, P/S w/ 44,000 original miles and is in pretty good shape. I plan to use it as a driver. It is a factory 2 tone color. White painted top and black below with black interior. It's a factory radio delete car with the radio block off plate and the right fender with no hole for the antenna. I was wondering if someone could give me an educated guess regarding the 7.25 rear that is in this car. I got the rear end to break loose three times and both tires left equal marks on the pavement. Any guess on the rear ratio and if it could have been equiped with suregrip? I plan on looking for the broadcast sheet. I'd like to know the history on this car and find out why it was equiped the way it was. Thanks, Nico

Welcome on the board. Sounds like a neat car! If you'll post a good, clear, sharp photo of the fender tag, we can decode it for you and tell you the equipment and specs the car was built with. The fender tag is under the hood, on the left (driver's) inner fender, and is a metal plate about 2" tall by 3" wide with alphanumeric codes on it. If you have no way of showing us a clear photo, carefully copy down the contents of the tag exactly how and where they appear, and we can decode from that.

Should be a tag on the rear with a ratio and it might say SG

Put the car on jackstands with the rear wheels off the ground and the trans in Park. (Park brake off too) If you can turn a rear wheel by hand you do not have a Sure Grip.

I lightly goosed mine in the driveway and dug 2 holes (gravel) about 3 ft long. Mine is a one legger. It does get rubber on both wheel wells at the track........ Don't know why?

Hey Dennis it's "I ain't Jackeled my lumber........" Saw JJ Dupree in Ft.Myers they told him to turn it down, he cranked it up! First and only concert at the ball park  George Thorogood was the headliner. :!:

I found the fender tag and this is how it reads:
EW1 U 22 C12 V02 END
TX9 A2X9 TX9 211 258515
E24 D34 VL41 C2R 240191

Thanks again, Nico

Thankyou very much for the decode!
Next step is to get the car on a lift and check the rear end a little closer as well as the suspension and brakes! Thanks again, Nico
