Hello Wizards!

A group of us were loafing at a racers transmission shop saturday. I was talking about my swapping in a slant six 727 in place of my 833OD. Someone said there is a plate that goes between the bell (remember I have a slant six bell 727) and the block. I said yeh, here it is and pulled out mine from the trunk. Mine is about tin, 4 inches high and matches the tranny bell at the bottom of the block to tranny connection, kinda like the tin one for the 833 that is in the same place but shaped a little different. Both these are in the rear main seal area.

I know everyone knows about these tin plates, but the questioner was swearing there was a tin plate that went all the way around the bell between the block and tranny and had something to do with the flexplate. It is always possible my knowledge is deficient, but I never heard or saw such a piece. IS there one? Or is the questioner maybe thinking of an adapter plate for a non slant six 727?

They must be thinking of the adapter plate for A-engine 727s put on Slants 67-down, before they made the Slant 727. That plate is 1.1" thick cast iron (but casting has reliefs). Unmistakable.

Are you going to use a higher stall converter in that buggy? If you have the coin, I would recommend something around 23-2600.

I got a 2200 stall from Midwest. They and I talked my desire for torque below 2500 rpm, about the truck weight, the 3.91, and the cam and that stall is what they recommended. Going in this week, in fact! Not a fatal stall is it? Its not too late to get another, I think it was in the $250 range so not too bad.
