Does the hose from the distributor to the carb connect to a little cylinder thing along the way? I believe it's bolted to the top of the head or the valve cover. If so, bypass that and just use a connecter to connect the hose straight from the distributor to carb. That fixed some of the hesitation my car used to have. I don't remember what the name is called. Its not that OSAC deal. I think Dan knows the name of it.

nope, its a direct connection. But my vacuum pod is shot.

That sounds like the '71 California NOx control system which prevented vacuum reaching the distributor until the car was in 3rd gear (with handshift transmission) or above something like 40 mph (with automatic). This system, like the OSAC that replaced it, works best when it's installed at the bottom of a landfill somewhere.

Sorry to resurrect this ancient thread, but I didn't see the need of creating a new topic for a small question that seems extremely relevant to this discussion.

I have a small circular device connecting the vacuum hose that goes from the distributor to the carburetor. It's about an inch in diameter, half is green and the other half white. It marries the two hoses right where the valve cover is but isn't bolted down. What does this do? I can't find any mention of it anywhere. Should I bypass it?

It's a timing delay device I'd bet like the later ESC, yes you can bypass it and run the hose from the carb to the vacc. advance can on the distributor.
