Iwas wondering if anyone might have an idea of what time a sl6 225 1979 Abody might get in the 1/4 mile if it had been rebuilt and i added a 4brl aluminum intake and dual exhaust headers, performance starter and stuff?

First off, the A-body line ended around 1976.(dart) This matters because by 79 you would be looking at an f- body ( aspen/ volare ) The difference is a couple of hundred pounds heavier with the f-bodies. No big deal, but something to clear up and a few tenths of a second difference with the same motor in the lighter car.

Anyway, without any 'engine' or 'machine' or 'head' work, I'd say you are in the 17's in the 1/4 mile.
This is a fresh stock rebuild, 4bbl, stock stall automatic trans, headers.

Add in a GOOD high stall torque converter,
Some home style head porting and a tenth of an inch off the head thickness,
A performance cam,
and you could be into the low 16's

The guys I've met who have done it really well this way and working on the cars for a couple years have them into the low 15's, but the cars are pretty much dedicated to drag racing and don't get any real street use. They have lights and stuff, so they are legal, but not something you'd want to drive to work every day.
