Just wondering if the later cast crank flywheel is different from the earlier steel crank? Did they balance differently? Also, has anyone used a bigger flwheel/clutch set-up in their car? I have a centerforce clutch/pressure plate combo that I would love to utilize, but I can't see it working without a bigger bellhousing, as it's for a small block.

As far as I know, the steel/cast flywheels are the same. Dennis

The only difference I know of is that the early flywheels (pre 68) have the smaller hub hole compared to the later ones. There is also an 11" setup used on trucks and HD apps, but is very unusual and has it's own bellhousing.

Cast crank flywheels are the same, not external balance on a SL6 cast crank engine. It is always a good idea to check component balance when "mix & matching" parts from who knows what.

The SL6 is a 122 tooth flywheel except for the jumbo 11 inch truck set-up. There is no easy way to use a small block 10 1/2 or 11" clutch on these flywheels. See the article on this for more info.
