We finally got to run our slant powered roadster down the quarter mile recently and had an absolute blast! For a car and slant built to run on the street and drive the long haul, we were pleased with just how well the little car ran.

Best E.T. of 15.40 @ 89 mph.

Cool beans! A light car like that could really use a higher stall torque converter and would drop that ET. Assuming you have traction that is! 89 MPH is capable of running a 13.9 ET, but that's with traction, ideal gearing and stall.

Yeah, it was so much fun. We talked about that very thing and installing a higher stall torque converter. We're not wanting it to be a race car by any means, but little things like that would be nice and not really hurt daily drive ability. We're also looking into a nice exhaust setup for it as well whether it be headers, dutra duals or even 6 straight pipes.

I posted in the transmission thread that we also have a very quick 1st to 2nd shift, yet the 2nd to 3rd shift feels normal meaning that it will acutally run 2nd to around 5000RPM. 1st to 2nd seems to go right around 2500 and never really wind 1st out.

I'd go for about a 3500 stall converter depending upon your cam duration. Unless you're hard on the gas you'll likely see very little extra slippage.

I would go for long tube headers. You look to have the space and they make the most torque and horsepower. Use 3-1 headers and then Y together the two pipes about 30" back give or take. How much noise you want will dictate the muffler. If you want a loud vintage sound the Walker race bullet mufflers are a modern glass pack.

That's odd about the 1-2 shift. Usually if the trans pressure linkage is adjusted right 1-2 will happen around 4500 RPM or so. Do you get kickdown when you go wide open throttle? Not using 1st to it's full potential will kill the ET.

89 MPH will get you into the 14's, not 13's. :D

89MPH got me mid to low 15's - Never 14's though - I had to break the 93 MPH mark for 14's

Greg, look at your timeslip from Martin. I was running 88-89 there in the 14:90's. :D :D

You're right. I read the wrong chart. I probably read weight/power ratio or some such thing. Best you can do for 89 MPH trap speed with an auto is supposed to be 14.7.

Thanks for the tips and suggestions!

Yup, the car will kick down from 3-2 when mashing the gas pedal down. I've not ever noticed a lowspeed kickdown from 2-1 though? Then again, don't think I've ever tried it either?

The car launched very well and shifted prematurely into 1-2 thus resulting in a slight bog when the car should have been hauling ass.

You still ran some great times. Have you tried shifting it manually? :D

Are you gonna build a slant to run with the HA/GR's next year? Take a little weight off that roadster and shift manually and you are close to being there.

We're kicking around the idea. We'll just have to see if we can make it a reality this winter or not. :)
