We were able to get 1 round of eliminations in before the sprinkles started. No big rain. Just light sprinkles every 15 minutes. It was supposed to do it all afternoon and night. They called Saturdays races about 5:00 pm.

The round of eliminations we did get in saw 8 cars line up. Winners in the 1st round were Brian Mimkin, Frank from Arkansas, Ron Parker and myself.

Races are to be continued 1st thing in the morning on Sunday if the weather is OK.

Joel Harris

Thanks Joel! Bench racing in the rain is almost as much fun as racing on the track! :D

Hopefully you'll be able to finish up Sunday.

Well the weather cleared up enough Sunday morning so we were able to get in our finals before and after the NSS time trials. About a 1/2 hour break so it was just right. We were done by 10:00 am.

Brian beat Frank to get in the Finals and I beat Ron Parker by .0016 to go to the finals. In the final I got by Brian by .1774. His car seemed to slow down for some reason.

I decided to enter the Street class since I still had time. 1st round I cut a .003 light but spun the tires out of the hole so my 60 ft time was off by .2 sec. which made my ET was off by the same amount so I lost to an AMC Hornet of all things. I really need some better meats on the car.

I hope everyone that came down or up had a good time despite the weather. I met Sandy from BC and we talked about just about everything on Saturday. It was nice to meet you. Frank, Cinda, Seymour, Mike, Ron, Brian it was nice to meet you too.

It was too bad the Buzzn' Half Dozen couldn't be here this year. It seems like he has been there every year for over 10 years. I can remember him winning the slant race then coming back on Sunday and Winning Super Pro. It's always good to talk tech with him. His enclosed car trailer makes a great place to meet in the shade too. As long as you don't mind listening to the Huskers football game.

Hope to see all of you here again next year, plus a few extra.

P.S., I saw the Bagel Bamboozler with my own eyes!

I just got home from St. Louis. My dad and I had a great time meeting new faces and spending time talking with everyone. I was really excited to make it to my first final, although I had some help along the way from my competitors. I was in the right place at the right time I guess. Joel really deserved the win after winning the race of the weekend against Ron Parker in the semis!! Wish more racers had showed up, but it was fun. If I keep this up I might not be able to sell my car!

See y'all at Bristol,

Brian

We got home today about 4pm. HAD A BLAST and look forward to many more races. Next year we should have 2 cars running in all the races we make. I feel very lucky to have a wife that wants to race TOO.
Enjoyed meeting everyone and Hope everyone enjoyed the quail. :D :D :D
Thanks
Frank

Possum, no shame in getting whooped by Joel. He is one of the toughest Slant racers I have ever run. IIRC, the only time I have ever beat him is when he went red.

I got your magic wand right here buddy.

:D Frank we made it OK ! I got your message after I went back and retrieved my cell phone from the rental Charger. I cannot express my thanks to everyone enough for the fun and hospitality of the weekend. Frank and his wife Cinda, started what I believe to be a new tradition at the slant races, with their superb quail cookout. Joined Ron and Sandy for pizza, oval racing and hockey talk at the Sleep Inn. For next year we hope to have my 64 Dart ready. But the big news is Morgan is fired up to build a slant racer to join his restored 65 Dart GT and his custom 73 Duster. He made an excellent observation: While the slant racers are serious racers, they do it without all the intensity surrounding the "big cars". Two possible for next year gang. Oh, who's this Morgan fellow? Well, he's a good friend of mine who came along and spent the weekend checking out the cars and the action at Monster Mopar. Oh yeah, he also fixes, maintains, modifies and even races his Mopars........AT THE AGE OF 85 !!!!

If anyone is interested, the promoter said that if we would get 15 cars to the race, he would bump up the purse to $1000, $1500 for 20 cars.

Frank, you would have to correct me on this if I am wrong. I thought you had told me this.
