I was cleaning up a primary block. There are a couple small pieces of wire that are in the primary block bent into an angle. I set them down on something, then promptly bumped it. They are somewhere on the floor. I can't find them.

What gage is this wire? How critical is the size of the wire?

Ceej,I this a 390? If so,the small peices of wire are not factory but most likely a restriction that someone has made for the idle fuel restriction.I know this because I spent all day today tuning on my 390 and adding different size restrictions made from different sizes of copper wire strands from a peice of electrical wire and finally setteled on a peice that measured .008.
I am assuming that this is the carb that you mentioned to me in my post about using a 390 on a 170, if not, kindly disregard,if so ,I hope this helps a little.

Nope. This is in a 600 Holley that's never been on my car.

I traced the circuit to the idle circuit. This was a carb I got used. It was used on a built up /6. I'll see if I can get it working without the wire.

This carb didn't have a secondary idle screw in it, so I'll need to see if I can come up with something. It's just a #8 Screw, so I may experiment with something that has a head on it that I can get at while the carb is mounted. That'd be nice!

I h ave messed with a few 600 Holleys on v-8 cars and dont remember wire being in the primary block and if it was in the idle circuit that sounds like they were being used for restrictors.

Nope. Secondary plate. I pulled the 39 Plate and stuck the 9 on there.

It now has 57's in the primary, and a 9.5 PV to start out with. We'll see. I had 57's and 60's. Nothing in between. That can be solved!

I'll bolt it up tomorrow if I get a break from the rain.

With the wire in there, it flows less fuel... Might actually be a good thing with my motor... It took me forever to clean all the gasket surfaces up. Kept me off the streets anyway! :D
