I tried to install the HEI conversion without a timing light, did not go so well. I now have a light but the problem is when I disconect the vacuum advance, there is no change. I set the timing at 10* btc, hook up the vacuum advance and there is no difference. I ended up re_installing my points distributor so I could get to work tomorrow, that too seems indifferent to the vacuum advance. I can feel some vacuum at the end of the tube. Any ideas?

The vacc. advance port on a carburator doesn't really come into play during idle, the throttle blades have to sweep by the port in the throat of the carb for vacuum to start at the port...

set your carb to fast idle (1500-2000 rpm), measure adv. with vacc. hose plugged and unhooked, hook it back up and see what the difference is...

The other way to measure it, is use a hand vacc. pump, set carb to about 1000 rpm and see what changes the vacc. adv makes when you use the hand pump at various ranges of vacuum (i.e. if you plot it and the adv. pod has no advance at say 6", but is in 'full' at 15", you know that you should be at WOT where 0-6" is on your dash mounted vacc. gauge, and you should be at 'cruise' for best mileage at 15+")

good luck,
