Okay -- so I've seen warnings to stay away from reman'ed 1920s from Checker, Napa, Autozone, etc... What is my other option? I have a 1920 that I am just totally fed up with now!! I need to do something and do it fast, so please, what do you suggest?

In order to make the car idle, and not fall on it's face when taking off from a stop sign, I have timing advanced about 20* and can not pull off/plug the vac advance hose without it dying. I've already swapped distributors, wires, ECU and plugs. I set the valves tonight...same crap. I'm FED up with this thing!!

HELP!!!

Mike

I would rebuild the one that is on the car, that would probably be the best way to go or if you don't feel confident to do it yourself then have it rebuilt locally (just try to go to a shop with a good reputation)

The carbs, after several decades of service, eventually just reach the end of their service life and cannot be brought back no matter how much time or effort you spend fiddling with them. "Remanufactured" units from the parts store are overwhelmingly trash. If you don't have access to a reasonably fresh original used unit that's worth rebuilding, I or another vendor might have a new carb that'll work for your application...what year and model are you working with? Send me a PM.

Unless you have a known good/working carb for your 318 then your in the same boat.

Oh, I'm not worried about the 318 -- nothing a 4bbl intake and one of my known working 4bbls can't fix. Besides, good 4bbls are plentiful, unlike good 1920s.
