My 63 Dart's electrical system has been rock solid for the past 9 yrs. Went out to drive it to work today and she started fine. During warm up, it died. I started back up, no problem. Took off to work, got out on the road, it died again, only this time I knew the problem was electrical. It was like I turned off the key. When I turned the key to the "on" position. the oil light did no come on., and the car wouldn't start. Trying again, the oil light came on, and the car fired up. My question is, does the power for ignition come through the ammeter. Seems to me I remember that being the case. Tomorrow I will get out my books and look, but for now I come to the greatest source of real answers I know of. This Forum.

Yup, all power goes through the ammeter. Try turning on the lights and seeing if they come on. If they do, the ammeter is probably not the (only/main/primary) problem. Could also be a bad ignition switch, a problem in the wiring, a problem at the bulkhead disconnect...

I did disc0nnect the bulkhead connection and reconnect. Haven't gotten around to checking further yet. The car would turn over, it just would not start. Then on the next try it would fire right up.
