I just broke my first one (of course after 30 years of operating I'd be tired of 'grounding out' 40 times a day...).

I notice the '76's used part number 3514431 which of course is NS1...
Local Parts houses don't have a replacement, I have one spare, but I'd like to have another replacement 'just in case'... Anybody know if they make new ones... or (ones that aren't 'chinese'?!?!?)

THANK YOU!!!!

(Yes I can get around it by doing the early 60's thing and grounding out the interlock prong on the relay, but I don't like the idea that if I 'forget' I could launch the car through the garage door...or the inspection pit at a drag race...or run over someone...)

Well, you could get a new one from Brad's NOS Parts for only $89.50, or one from Arizona Parts for $25...

What's the fuss about? My '67 doesn't even have a clutch switch. My '96 Dakota 2.5 had a little jumper in the harness to bypass the clutch switch so I did. Crankshaft thrust bearings last longer when you don't have to start the engine with the clutch disengaged.

Everything is a trade-off. Trade some added safety for maybe having to change a pilot bushing a few years down the road? Makes sense to me. There should also be a safety interlock betwwen the brake and shifter on automatic cars. Very late models have them. My 05 Jeep has one, my 98 Dakota does not.

Growing older is unavoidable but growing up is strictly optional.

I don't agree that a brake/shift interlock is needed on automatic cars. I can see both sides of the clutch/start interlock on manual cars.

A neutral safety switch seems the best compromise.

A neutral safety switch is used on automatic cars. I don't know of any manual cars that have neutral safety switches, per se, but there's no real reason it couldn't be done.

Lack of 'safety' switches can be a useful starting technique........

My old mazda (worn out rotary engine) would get into a state that the start motor didn't have enough power to turn over the engine fast enough to start, and we couldn't get the car moving fast enough for a 'push' start by pushing.......

But push the car, jump in, get it into first, dump clutch and hit starter at same time; and it would start right up............

Now that I have the '76 back up and running using my spare set of pedals to cannibalize parts off of and Arizona parts is off line until Nov.1...

Anybody know if they require the clutch interlock switch for drag racing (aka pass tech inspection), if stock to the car (obviously, my '67 might get away with the grounded box as that is 'stock'...). I remember this used to be an issue at Woodburn a decade or two back...

I've never had a stick car checked for a clutch switch. Maybe they were always more worried about the battery cutoff or the trunk bulkhead on my car. I wish I knew where my NHRA rule book was.
