That SL6 is not "blown-up"... it's just running on 5 cylinders!

You have to work a little harder to blow-up a SL6:

I still have that piston and rod Doug! Mine ran on 5 cylinders too!

For those that don't know the first picture with the orange engine stand is mine.

I really like the broken crank though!

Holy crud, Doug, what'd you do to that crankshaft?!

The reason why pics like this are so shocking is that events like this are so rare. Not like in the world of Chivverlay V8s, whose enthusiasts have to resort to mutual self-delusion: "Yeah, man, my 350's so powerful I've broken four cranks and three sets of rods!".

I've seen one from a Slant racer that was broken at the #1 rod journal and actually fell out on the track.

They had hydrauliced a cylinder with too much fuel.

If you worked for a tow company in Oregon you'd see an A-body come into the repo yard about one every month a few years back, with the same problem... Low oil pressure, #5 or #6 gone and a window in the block near the starter, just abandoned on the highway as 'junk'... I always found it funny to start the engine back up and watch it sputter back to life on 5 cylinders, while the ford and chevy guys stared in disbelief...

Sad way for a good engine to go, though...

Oh yeah, a 5 cylinder slant six will run about 7 minutes with no coolant or oil, and a chevy 305 with 8 cylinders and the same treatment only lasts about 3 and half....

I had a 170 that had 385,000 miles on it and it lost a cylinder and started blowing oil. I figure it either had a cracked piston or burned a hole in one. It ran on 5 but a 170 that is only a 142 and draging one cylinder doesn't have a whole lot of power.
