I'm adding a new cam (group buy) and a Super six (from a member here) and also a set of the Dutra's . My question is, should I put the old intake and exhaust on first for cam break-in and then change the rest over ? Basically since I'm not sure on the set-up I don't want to crank and crank without starting the motor. What do you guys think ? Does Doug make house calls ?? LOL!!!

Thanks,

Steve

Steve,

Nice thing about a slant is you can't stop it from firing! Set your timing, get your wires on right plugs, make sure you have a spark, move your idle screws out 1.5 turns, use a remote start switch so you can see what is going on, and STAND BACK! You may idle rough, but you will be off the cam setting! I had two wires on the wrong plugs, no exhaust line to my dutras, looked like a fuelie with fire coming out the Dutras, but ran like .he..!
Bolt it up and let er rip. your manifolds don't have a thing to do with firing.

My biggest concern will be the carberator, is is new or "rebuilt"?
The next concern is getting a good valve lash adjustment done prior to start-up. Do some "homework on that subject.
My last concern, make sure the gaskets seal and there are no vacuum leaks.

Cover these problem areas and the engine will fire-up and run well enough to do your "fine tuning".
