Ok does anyone know where I could find a high performance clutch for a slant? So far I've looked at the ones fromthe tech articles and the companies that emailed me back have said they would have to custom make me one or I'd have to redrill my flywheel.

McLeod can set you up with a very nice aftermarket clutch assy. Call their tech line. mcleodind.com is their site, IIRC.

Zoom and Ram make ones also, don't know the capabilities though.

hmm anything for the 9 1/8" clutch? Thats the one I bought from a friend. I have enough clutch on the one I have to last a while but I'd like to find out where I can find one.

You should be able to buy a 10" heavy duty clutch at most any parts store that will bolt to the stock flywheel.

IIRC, Thunderbird Turbo Coupe pressure plate will bolt on a Slant flywheel too.

really? hmm thats something to think about maybe I can find a good used one just to try. So if I can get the pressure plate to mount to the flywheel I should be able to use a 10 in. clutch disc for a mopar?

I wonder if the Ford Ranger V^ clutch cover would fit a slant slywheel? There is a 9 1/8" 1"-23 spline 3.0 V6 Ford Ranger Centerforce clutch.

I used a Turbo T Bird disc (9.25) on the 5 speed in the Valaint....but I used it with the stock Pressure plate....

I just installed one in Beater Valiant, the pressure plate for the 9 1/4" kit is a stockish Borg and Beck unit, with a stock disc...sadly the throw out bearing uses a plastic collar, which immediately fell apart (ruining the bearing) as soon as I installed the clutch fork... I installed a good OEM bearing that is made from metal...

Check out Hays and Zoom clutches. Also,some clutches for big block Mopars also fit the slant six. My pickup 225 has an 11inchX23splineX1inch shaft and there were quite a few choices, but mine has the larger HEAVY bellhousing. I found the tech. support at Perfection Hy Test/Zoom very helpful. And, if you purchase one of their clutches from Parts America.com/Checker/Advance Auto it has a lifetime warranty,but you must have the flywheel resurfaced(which you'd want to do anyway).The same exact clutch at NAPA came with a one year warranty. Since I plan to keep my / , I went with the lifetime warranty. Sachs also makes good clutches. Buy a complete new clutch kit,and replace everything. I also replaced a transmisson seal and the U-joints. Research "clutch kit" from various vendors. If you want a racing clutch, be prepared to spend the $$.

Also,a heavy duty/racing clutch wil give you a stiffer pedal,but probably not a big deal? Mine is a Borg and Beck style clutch. You may not be 100% positive what you've got until you take it apart. Good Luck!! Tell us all about your final decision.

I called Centerforce. The 3.0 V6 Ranger clutch cover has a strange built in ratcheting self adjuster and is a different bolt pattern. The Centerforce tech could tell me the bolt patterns of various clutch covers, but couldn't tell me what, if anything, would fit our 10 5/8" flywheel bolt pattern. None of their flywheels have that bolt pattern, BTW.

I've had /6 clutch covers rebuilt with more springs before. Looks like I'll have to do the same once my 225 makes enough torque to slip the current clutch. Shouldn't be too hard to burn it up once I start with the nitrous.

How's Ott's Friction doing these days???...it's kind of sad to hear Dick Ott passed away a short time back... I had talked to him about getting a 'better' disc for the 9 1/4 or 10"...but like always, got too busy to have something made...

Dick Ott ran Ott's Machine Shop in SE Portland. He was a personal friend and he is missed. I called his shop the Monday after he died to tell him I accidentally narrowed a valve seat on a head he'd done for me and ask his advice. Dick was the business. His shop has been sold.

Ott's Friction Supply is still here. You can still get clutches made. There is no connection between the two businesses.
