I know this is strange but stay with me on this. I restored a 72 Dart Swinger 10 years ago and sold it to my brother about four years ago. He willed it back to me when he pasted away a while back This is still a nice car but I changed the built 340 engine out of this car and put it in a 65 Barracuda that I have. The engine out of the Barracuda is a la engine Dale Rose said it was a 318 ci engine and put it in the 72 Dart Thats fine but what I need to look for the engine code to find out exactily what it is and what year. engine number location ect. PS this car won best a body at Atlanta Dragway and car show 10 years ago. Then we started racing Slants. We are in the process of putting this car back in top condition. Thanks Ron Parker

I have two cars now that I have sold and both of them found me back home like a lost doggie

If you look at the side of the block, it will have the engine size, in raised cast numbers. It will also have the casting date, as mm-dd-yy, in raised cast numbers. If I remember right one is on one side of the block and the other is on the oposite side.

Actually I do have at least one set, maybe two. Been on the shelf for 20 years. Have to look at them and check the condition.

The J heads are good, and are what I put on my 360 DArt, but I have heard that putting those heads ont he 318 will kill the compression if you dont; do the math and have them milled correctly. You probably know that already though.

Sam

Thanks Sam yea we know how to do the J heads. Did one set and put in the 2.02 stainless valves and maybe 170 exhust have to look at my notes milled it . It works great. 340 x heads are for the most part to pricy if you can find them. The 318 will be a 30 over with flat top pistons with J heads with the 2.02 valves and spec 340 cam mopar 452 lift i think . The car has a built 727 trans and a 4.10 742 sure grip that I had built. The 340 engine was orignaly in this car and it was a built engine but had a lot of cam mopar 284 484 cam and was a lot of gear to drive any distance for a crusie in car. But it was a hell of a car with street tires to smoke them anytime you wanted. Thanks Ron Parker

Woops, didn't notice you wanted "J" heads. I have heard of them, but don't know how to tell them from the others. One set of heads I have, has AAWJ cast into the head under the valve cover. Is this the "J" head?
