Do you know if the Motorcraft 2150 has a ported vacuum for the vacuum advance? Mine has the choke pull off, should I leave it on or just take it off? And would the choke pull off port work for the vacuum advance?

I was getting ready to change my head gasket and needed to change my 1bbl intake (it was cracked). I just found a 2bbl intake and was going to put on a Holley 5210. I had it setup and ready to go, I just needed the adapter to mate the two. Had a guy that had one cheep but, I guess it got lost in the mail. So, I needed to move on and started to work on the 2150 I had.
It came off an 81 Ford Truck but, it's still a small 1.08 carb. I noticed it had a long power valve is that the two stage version?

The choke pull-off vacuum connection is a source of manifold vacuum, and will not work correctly for the vacuum spark advance, which needs a ported vacuum source. See here .

Could I hookup one of the manifold vacuum ports to the Ported Vacuum Switch on the head? If so, which connector on the switch do I hook it to? Give me an explanation of ported vacuum; is it a lower vacuum than manifold vacuum?

Manifold vacuum is full time. plug a gauge in to varios ports on the carb see whick one registers as you open the throttle and is 0 at idle.

That would not accomplish what you need.

It is vacuum taken from a passage that is above the throttle plate when the engine is idling, so it has zero vacuum at engine idle. As the throttle opens, the port is exposed to vacuum. The "curve" of vacuum level relative to throttle opening is different than manifold vacuum until the throttle is open a significant percentage of maximum.

The only port above the throttle plate is this one (yellow arrow). It goes inside of the air cleaner filter. I did notice this spot (red arrow) that looks like a port could be there. What do you think? I know others have made this swap what did they do?

hook a hose to it, blow into it and see where it comes out.

that won't be it. the hole it come out should be in the throttle bore, got a pic of the front of that carb? It has been a while since I had my hands on one. I hade one on a '69 302.

Every fitting on that carb check 'em. Like Dan said check above the throttle plate for the air to come out.

The vacuum ports shown. One is below the throttle butterfly and the other is right at the other butterfly. Do I need to have the choke pull off?

probably the nipple on the passenger side.

Keep in mind the BBD has the distributor vac port way up on the passenger side of the main body.

That carb has a lot of crap on it mine didn't. Do you know where it came from? Got a tag? Did you put a kit in it?

The kit might have a diagram pointing out the vac port for the distributor.

Only so many holes on that puppy! :wink:

That carb is rated at 287 CFM from Ford. Ported vac for the distributor is on the passenger side, below the choke towards the front. Your carb uses a two stage power valve. Any Holley power valve will work with this carb. This is a nice carb. The top comes off easily allowing you to change main jets. There is an idle feed restriction there also and it is easy to drill out. The power valve restriction is accessible when you take the power valve out. The main emulsion tube comes out through the top once the cover is off. You can then modify the pump discharge nozzles if you want. Overall, a nice carb that works well and is easy to tune. Has annular booster venturis for good atomization.
