IF YOU GO WITH THE LOWER RATIO 998/999 1ST GEAR IN A 904 WON'T THE NEW 1ST TO 2ND WIDER RPM DROP PRETTY MUCH ELIMINATE ANY GAIN IN 60 FOOT TIMES? Can the Slant recover from such a wider drop?

I HAVE MY TRANS ON THE BENCH AND AM CONTEMPLATING WHICH GEAR SET TO PUT BACK IN.

I the 2.74:1 first gear transmissions had a 1.54:1 second gear as opposed to a 1.45:1. The FSM has the ratios.

The wide ratio is not that noticable when you have a high stall converter and a deep rear end ratio. :twisted:

The big drop is between 2nd and 3rd. :shock:

No, it will not recover. You will gain ET down low and give it back at the big end. :(

Been there, done that, got the T-shirt. :roll:

It is fun for stoplight racing though. :twisted:

With an engine limited due to our head restrictions (flow and saimeze port heat transfer) to 6700 max. I believed the beginning of the peak torque band would be missed (came in too far below) with the shift/rpm drop. Thanks for the info.
I'm looking at a 3600 stal convertor and for 1/4 mile a 4.30 gear.
This is a 10" slick car.
:) Thoughts?

How tall of a tire?

I am gonna try a 4.56 with a 28X9X15 slick and a 4000 converter.

Same size tire I'm looking at.
Also for the Daytona body I'm using now it will look :shock: a lot better.
What kinds of trap RPM's do you expect?

I have used both and prefer the standard gear set. We use a 5000 converter,4.30 gears, and 26" tall drag radials ( MT 235/60/15 ). Car with driver about 3000 lbs.
