(1) After installing my intake, I have noticed a very slight leak coming from what appears to be the rear-most stud. Is that a wet stud? I thought some were blind, but I guess the end ones aren't. Is there an easy way to fix this without pulling the intake back off? :? I would hate to tear my graphite gasket......

(2) This one suprised me a little.
While tunning the carb, I noticed a slight tapping within the block. It's close to the rear, and quites down with a little throttle. It's a little worse when the engine is hot. I am positive that is not the lifters, it's lower in the crank case, and it's a slower tempo. I'm afraid that it might be a rod bearing......please tell me it could be something else. I would really hate to pull that motor, but if that is what it takes.......
Thanks for any suggestions.

That is a wet stud. Just seal it with teflon sealant in a tube. I like this better than tape. As for the tapping, it might be a flex plate bolt. How fast is it going. and what pitch is it? Is it high, which might indicate sheet metal, or low, which would indicate the block or something heavy. If the flex plate to torque converter bolts are not tight they can work out and hit the block with each revolution.

Piston slap and / or a loose piston pin are other possible causes.
What weight oil are you using, is it a multi-weight oil?

BigBlock,

I had the exact same problem. Installed the Aussie graphite gasket and it started leaking.......:(

You don't need to take the manifold off, just back that stud out when it's hot by double nutting it. That way the hole will dry out nicely. I used the high heat, white teflon sealer in a tube. Worked just fine.

That thumping may be your fuel pump. Take a stethoscope check it. The bottom end maybe just fine. :) I thought the same thing right after the rebuild on the initial fire up. Scared me for a few minutes........I didn't realize that fuel pumps could be so noisy.
