I bought a slant six a couple of years ago to rebuild for whenever the current engine got worn out enough to justify the rebuild. It's attatched to a 904 auto. I'm not sure what kind/year of car/truck it came out of. Has a screw on oil filter where the canister filter is on my '64 225 /6. Has a Holley 1bbl with a linkage going to the exhaust manifold (choke?). Also, the timing gear at the end of the cam is plastic/fiber (non-metal). Not sure if it is the original color, but the engine is turquoise. I've read that the engine displacement is supposed to be stamped on the front side of the engine on the top right (left side being the manifold side and right side being distributor side) on the ledge just below the head, but there is nothing there, however, on the rear side of the engine, on the top right on a ledge just below the head is the following number: OE138318. On the left side of the engine about midway down and back is this number: 2806830. A few inches to the right is: 03030.
Can anyone tell me what these mean/represent? How can I make sure the engine is a 225, and not a 170 or 198 without the number I referrenced to above?

The parts chart HERE indicates the block casting number as a five-freeze-plug RG (198-225) version, '68 to '75.

The displacement is stamped on a pad on the top surface of the block, between #1 and #2 plugs, above the coil bracket.



If the block has been decked, the number stamping may have been removed.

A replaceable-cartridge type oil filter was a factory option. If the engine's turquoise paint is original, it's likely a '69 engine.

I assume you mean 5 total freeze plugs, not just 5 on one side? Is there a way to kow for sure if it has been decked or not?

The early blocks have 3 freeze plugs (total) on the manifold side of the block, in a shallow triangular pattern. The later ones such as yours have five in a row. 2806830 is an RG block, so this is almost certainly a 225, though if it was ever remanufactured, it could be a 198, since the 198 and the 225 both use the RG block. It is not a 170.

The absence of engine ID numbers does suggest this block has been decked or that it was a warranty or service replacement engine (though those were supposed to be stamped by the dealer at the time of installation).
