ok for some time i have not had a working spedometer, after unhooking my spedo cable and pulling my instrument cluster today i found out why.

there is 8 inches of cable sticking out of the tube. i went under the hood and found that there was a kink in the cable so i unkinked it and now the cable turnes but i cant seem to get it back in the tube.

my borther has a shop in seattle "wd deisel and automotive" and he says buy a new spedo cable. well right now i dont have the 40.00 for a new one. (its been a rough week)

so one of my mates said " put a quart of oil down it then un hook it from the trans pull the slack thru then re-attach"

i personally have no clue and my dash is apart and my car is half parked in my garage and half out. and i do not wanna pull the cluster again it gets harder every time.

so what should i do?

I dunno about a "Quart" of oil... Dan put a cable maintenance post up a while back. Remove, clean, and lubricate per his step by step.
Do a search for the post. If the cable is damaged, you should replace it.
That'll give you some "Bonding" time with your brother as an added bonus. :D

The Autozone /AAP speedo cables are a bit longer than the original so you may have to be a bit creative in how you install it, but they do the job just fine. The bigger question is, did the cable fail because it is old, or because the bearing in the speedo is shot?
