A freind came over today and we bolted on his Stromberg 2bbl off his '68 318 Cuda.

My pinging is gone, it spun up to 5100rpm effortlessly! No bogs just ran like great.

He has never had it apart. Low mileage original carb. No wonder Reverand Mopar in Maryville TN runs a Stromberg on his record setting 273 powered station wagon. This car was featured in Mopar Action this year getting some air under the driver's tire.

I may be driving the Duster to Oklahoma this weekend. It would be nice to see how I MPG with this.

ANYONE WANNA SELL SOME STROMBERGS???

Thanks!

I might be able to take one tomorrow and email it. I was looking at carbs listed on www.moparfins.com no listing for a 68 just a 67.

'67 was the last year for Strombergs on cars, '68 (or early '69) on trucks. This is in North America; Bendix Australia continued making Stromberg carbs through the mid '70s. The WW 2bbl is a very reputable carburetor, and as you probably found on examination, they were well made (nice quality castings, well-thought-out linkages and hinges and such). Sometimes you'll get interference between the throttle lever and a slant-6 intake manifold, but the interference point is with a superfluous part of the intake casting and you can just grind it down or cut off the offending chunk of casting with a hacksaw. Probably the biggest hassle is the choke; because of the way the choke lever is configured, the Slant-6 2bbl choke thermostat (or the electric replacement) tends to bind up rather than push the choke closed. I haven't futzed around with this enough to figure out a good workaround; it would probably involve either clever adaptation of a BBD choke lever or custom-fabricating an adaptor (or putting on a manual choke and calling it good).

Note that there were also Stromberg 1bbl carbs on Mopars...one year only in North America, but a few years in Australia.

What's the carb ID number? It's stamped into the top casting, just above the fuel inlet, and starts with a 3-. (such as 3-272, 3-267, etc.) There may be a letter after it, such as 3-285A.

I had to grind the intake on the driver side. It is dark and rainy right now.

Well the model #is on the back side where the vac advance plugs in. I saw a WW on there. On the passenger side I saw some markings that almost look like 1 1/8" with a circle around it. It was dark aand I needed to put my glasses on to read the WW.

AFA the pinging? I found my distributor loose when I was tightening the oil filter. I am taking a set of 1/4" sockets and lots of extensions to adjust on the road if necessary. We'll see how it does. My best with a 1bbl was 29.5 cruising 65mph. Best with a 2bbl and the header with the head work was 22+ at 80-82 mph. That is 3400rpm according to the tach.

We'll see! I may report from Okieville. Borrow dad's laptop.

My VC was loose as a goose. It will probably still leak. It used to seal good. One of those POS Chinese chromey's that Dan loves to hate. I have 2 stockers that were too dirty to clean up in the time I had.
