I need to replace the side marker reflectors on my 73 dart. I remember reading somewhere that the side markers on an 80's model pickup had the same part number and can be purchased considerably cheaper than the same reflectors listed for an a body. Can anyone verify this?

Nope...same part number for all the many '72-up Mopars that use these lenses. They're not costly. 3587 440 (red rear) 3587 436 (front amber) unless you're putting it together with the export configuration, in which case amber front and rear. Under $12/ea with a coöperative parts guy.

I remember Jack P had some story where he went to pick a part and stole all the rectangular marker lamps off the early 80's cars (even chargers/daytonas and lasers) since they were the same part...he even boasted he washed and cleaned them in his kitchen sink and made a steal at a buck a pop...and selling them back for $3 each...

You shouldn't have a problem finding used ones, or even an inexpensive set in really nice shape...

I'm tempted to let fly with one of my patent-pending rants, but I'll just say Jack P had a lot of stories like that, and leave it there.

I just got a set of front amber lights for my Satellite from a couple of early '80's trucks. Remember, they are side specific. One thing I noticed: The newer ones seem to be made of thinner or clearer plastic. When I replaced the passenger side, the original light "frame" (where the light plugs into and the mounting studs are), was white and the newer replacement let light go through. So of course I had to get the driver side so the inner fenders will both be lit up... You can find marker lights on ebay, Brads NOS, Jacks, etc.

The "used on tons of different models" '72-up units we're talking about here (used on all '72-'76 A-bodies, amongst many others) are not side specific. One part number for red, one part number for amber.

Uhhh...MiDi, did you actually read the posts in this very thread? If so, please let me know which part of "used on all '72-'76 A-body models" or "3587 436 red, 3587 440 amber, under $12 from a coöperative dealer parts guy" is making a problem and I will try to state it more clearly.

Jack Poehler bought the Slant-6 Club of America from its founder Harry Aunes in the 1980s, and ran the club and published the Slant-6 News magazine until the 1990s. See this thread and this one.
