Hi Guys - I am in the process of swapping a Australian CL/CM Valiant rearend - for bigger brakes and boltpatern, into my 68 barracudaFB

Here is the rub - the mounting pads on the axle is 14mm more outboard so the locating pin hole is as much more outboard

SO suggestions I had

1.) force it - it can be done by hand quite easily don't like this even if there is enough and thensome give in the new bushes - I am worried about the extra load on the shackles

2.) reposition the locating hole to match original spacing - doable - is there any downside?

3.) have the mountings cut off and relocated - expensive

Ideas please

The usual approach is to cut off the original leaf spring pad and weld a new one on in the proper position. Moving the hole in the existing pad won't allow the U-bolts and lower plates to line up. I wouldn't want the springs to be moved outward 1/2" a side as that's valuable tire real estate.

I think in a perfect ,sponsored world Josh is right....

In my world...if you can line them up by hand.....Trying before Cutting and Welding might be an option. It either works ...or it doesnt

It will remove any slack in your bushings......

True - the biggie is that in my neck of the woods new perches for these guys do not exist ......so new perches is bloody expensive - they have to be made up.

I was wondering if it wouldnt be an idea to press them by hand and drive the car plus orignal rearend out to the only enginering works around here that do this kind of thing, and get them to move perches, and sort out UJ angles, and rearend alignment......

This will happen once they money is ok

A good shop can cut off and remount your existing perches,,,,or cut the original perches off the original housing and mount them on the new housing....thats what I did when I put the 8.8 in my car.
