Hey All
A little off subject but its to tow my race car. I hav a 360 powered 4 door long bed D350 it has the 4 speed with the low 1st granny gear. I need to go to an automatic as I can no longer work the clucth very well. Any ideas as to what the tranny is and what automatic would be good there. Remember Ill be towing a race car or 2.
Thanks
Frank

You probably have the New Process (NP) 435 transmission. If that truck had been built with an automatic it would have an A727 and that's exactly what I'd put in. Find a similar truck in a wrecking yard and grab the steering column, shift and throttle pressure linkages, trans, driveshaft, etc.

727 stubby tranny. No slip yoke. I have a big block one. I am probably buying a 82 4 door with long bed. I am workinng a deal on a 440 to go with it.

I have a friend that is selling a OD auto on Moparts in the tranny section.

You can convert a BB one to a SB bell. Motor homes are a good place to look. There are some 318 and 360 Winniebagos out there. They might have the parking brake on the tail shaft.

Thanks for the input. I have a 78 MH with a 440 auto thatis built on the same chasis( I think) has a cable shift trans would this be a better choice? One note on the trans it slips in 1st some. Another question would be the cable shifter would it fit any 727?
Thanks
Frank

The cable shift that you talk about isn't the same as, say a 65-down T flite, the short tail 727s I have seen still had the same levers on the trans as a linkage fed column shifter would.
