I found a 4 speed slant six in the junkyard out of a 1985 or 1986 dodge van. What do I need to change to bolt an automatic transmission to it.

Thanks

I'm a little confused by your post. Are you putting the Van trans in something else, that was an automatic? Or putting an Auto on the van in place of a 4 speed?

If the vehicle this late engine is going into is '68 or newer (or has a '68 and newer transmission) you don't have to do a thing. If the auto trans that will go behind the engine is '67 or older you need a spacer ring to support the smaller nose of the early torque converter in the back of the crankshaft.

Thanks for the response. It would be going into a 1965 dodge dart with original automatic trans but I can get a slant six transmission from a early to mid seventies A-Body to make it simpler. Or maybe an A-500 overdrive if I get the adapter.

The simplest thing to do is get the adapter bushing. The '65 has a one year only trans shifted by a cable connected to the lever on the column. If you want to use a later trans the thing to do is swap to a '66 steering column.
