I'm not taking any orders :lol: Keep in mind this thing is untested and I have only run it for about ten minutes so far. I will give all details and the idea is anyone can build it. I'm no machinist and I have no tools more exotic than a Sawzall and a drill press. Yes there was a lot of labor involved, most of it unnecessary probably, but that's how you learn.
I really came up with a better idea for the rockers but I was so far into this one I wanted to finish it. Soon I hope to start another head and now that I see it's possible to do I'll share all progress. I'm sure some of you will see things I've missed and have better ideas.
Here's some of the specs. on the bottom end.

Block bored to 3.504", .070" off the deck,
stock crank and 198 rods
ARP rod and main bolts
2.8 chevy flat top pistons 1.58" comp ht. .905 pin
.032" copper head gasket
Erson 270 cam

I thought mebbe you sleeved it to 3.917 and used the 5.7 pistons...

If you set the head the other way you could DIS the ignition, set cool coil packs on the side or valve cover and you could run the exhaust out on the "hidden" side.

Man oh man,if it turns out to be a complete flop at least put it in a art gallery,that is one beeuteeful work of art.Make it work though as the best place to see that is under the hood(many hoods).Bitching,my complaments sir you are the master :D

I always consider my next steps in building to be an 'improvement' and learning process toward 'the next step', in your position I'd run it, see where timing and efi/carb would allow it to go, then move toward the next design parameters....

Just make sure to take notes, all those hieroglyphics will help someone else later on...

My thinking exactly! Congrats heckshemi...that's an awesome achievement.

Just looking at it I would think that you could make a 2-piece intake manifold ala a modern V6 such as the 3.5. Put a section of curved "risers" from the head to about valve cover height on the intake (passenger) side, put a gasket face there, and then have a removable section that crosses over the valve cover and puts the carb or throttle body back over on the driver's side. That would make it simple to remove whenever you need to get at the valvecover. For carb applications, it could even bolt to a heat transfer block from the exhaust manifold to make a hot spot for cold driveability.

As others have said, awsome work!

Much like PT and late caravan style intake for 2.4L, access to valve cover and plugs have to have plenum taken off by seperating the upper and lower
runners via bolts.

Exactly, although the 3.5 is the one I'm familiar with. When you first see an engine designed that way it seems like it would be a pain, but its really, really easy to take that upper plenum off if you need to, and it opens up lots of ways to package the intake runners effectively. And in this case (as with the 3.5 by the way) you could access the plugs between the intake runners so that you only have to separate the upper intake from the engine if you need to get under the valve cover, not just to do plugs.

That's got to be one of the best efforts ever with a Sawsall.

Now, it would be good to have a siamezed block with the camshaft
higher like in the 3TC. In that double-rocker motor the lifters are
almost flush with the deck surface, but canted toward the piston
centerline.

I am heading to Home Depot to get a Sawsall :) There should
be a cable TV show that shows how to make complex things
with simple tools.

Has anybody looked at the BMW inline 6 head? I know the bore is really close in size to the /6, but don't know much more.

Just curious.

Edit:

Looks like 100mm (3.937") and 87mm (3.4252") bore on the M3 3.2L motor. Not sure how consistent that spacing is down the displacement ladder.

Plus it would either need to be converted to a pushrod setup (custom rockers?), or a custom cam with revised lobe spacing (impossible?).

Probably not a good candidate.
