The carb I was planning on using for my new super six is a 2543, I will be using a two wire dist. instead of the lean burn 4 wire set up (of course). The carb has two vac. ports in the base plate but are any of them timed for vac. advance hook-up? My alternate carb is a 2681 but it isn't nearly as pretty.

Thanks, Pat.

C'mon kids, someone must have some answers for me. Or I at least expect Dan to tell me that I'm asking a stupid question. (Which I secretly enjoy)

Are those numbers off the body of the BBD or are they off the copper colored tag attached to one of the bolts/screws on the body?

Even if a late 60's BBD it would still have a ported vacc. port and another port... (hint: if you take it apart to inspect and eventually 'dip' it you can look at the 'port' tube and see if it is under the throttle plate, or above it...)

The #s are from the stamping on the main body. The one in question did come from an '83 with no vac pod on the distributor so it seams unlikely that it would have a timed circuit. The carb is in descent shape and was run not too long ago so I was hoping to keep it intact. What with the whole "if it aint broke" theory.

The numbers cast/stamped into the carb body do not identify the carburetor meaningfully at all. The only numbers useful for IDing a BBD is the tag number, and if the tag's missing, the only way is to post some photos of the carbs you propose to use. Did you download the BBD manual I put up?

Here is a somewhat crummy picture of the carb I was hoping to use. Image
Hopefully you can see the two ports in the base plate and one in the main body. The other carb that I have does have a tin tag that reads 8290s 1461.

Thanks, Pat.

No, neither of those two are timed. The back one goes to the PCV and the front to goes to the gas recirculator canister.
The one half way up the side is a timed port for the distributor.

Two more ports on the opposite side. Any chance these will work?

Pat,

Take a real close look at the BBD manual SlantSix Dan sent you. On the third page it labels all the ports.
