When you bypass the egr valve do you just plug the ends the hoses come from and remove the egr?

Yes, and leave the EGR there, or buy the block off plate and gasket. I paid less than #10.00 for both.

EGR block off plate from the dealer # 3671447 lists for $5 Dealer item, p/n 3671 447, used with standard EGR valve gasket p/n 4173 167.

Proceed carefully. Pull the hose off the EGR valve and plug the hose securely, then drive the car around to see if you get a pinging problem, before you more permanently eliminate the EGR.
