When I purchased my slant and started doing research on intake options, I of course was droolin' for a hyper pak. I wanted this manifold because my engine will be going in a roadster (engine exposed). This intake is not currently in production. Pentastar parts and Restorations (Aussie company) is developing a long runner intake with heat in 2 and 4 bbl configurations. I have e-mailed these guys twice and are very good at responding. I'm going to purchase a 4bbl version and hope it works as good as it looks. If this intake ,for what ever reason, does not go to production I too will go the offy 5041 route. Just wanted to let ya know thats it looks promising that we may have a couple of extra induction options.

I talked to Larry at Clifford a while back, I asked him if they were going to do more Hyper-Pak intakes.
They still have the casting equipment and he is willing to do another "run" but needs some possible "buyers" to make the project work for him.

Clifford has started a waiting list so if you really want a reproduction H-Pak manifold, give them a call and get your name on the list.
Estimated cost will be $400.00 and Larry told me that Clifford would NOT ask for a deposit or payment in advance.

I sent Larry some information on how to successfully cast this manifold and he agreed to call me if they manage to get enough interest going to do another run. (basicically I would work with the foundry to be sure they do "top quality" work)

Doctor Dodge, thanks for the interesting info! Some folks on the forum have said that the H-pak is more hype than performance. Could some of its supposed short-comings be cured by adding a little heat to the bottom of the intake? Both intakes are very close in price- shipping from down under would be more than from CA of course. Could you weigh in on the possible pros and cons of each intake to help us less experienced guys with which manifold to buy? Both options are not exactly cheap and I want to purchase an intake by the end of May. Just don't tell my wife! Sorry if I am hi-jacking this thread!

There've been some very clean installations of this intake by members here on the board. A '63 Dart comes to mind, but I can't recall whose!
I can't claim very clean, but here's an example:

ImageImage

I had some trouble with hood clearance, so that's why I have the open element base on the front carb, it sits a little bit lower than the 9" closed element air cleaner, even with the dropped base air cleaner piece shown.

Works well for me, the only issue I had was getting the spring tensions correct with the kit--it required some extra engineering and if I did it again, I would replace a lot of the adjustable rods with heim joints so that it wouldn't slip around on me.

MJ
Now THAT I like! Good install and I'm already getting ideas for how I'd do it if I use one of those manifolds. It'd definitely be worthwhile to use heim joints wherever needed. Looks like it'd be a piece of cake to modify a throttle cable to work with dual Holley 1945s (my current carb is a 1945 so I'm picturing its throttle linkage) with a pair of cable cutters, eyelet and a swedge tool (all of which I have from rigging ebrake cables). First to get my current projects on the car finished, then I'll decide for sure on the manifold...

Here's another view of a 65 dart installation I got some pictures from several years back. You can see the slide over linkage setup for the throttle rod. May give you some ideas for fabbing up your throttle cable.

I have some pictures up on my site that may be worth looking at: http://camimenko.com/gallery/v/Lancer/OffyIntake/

NLM, at first I thought that was the installation I originally made reference to, but it's not. This one has a strange hose running between the two carbs' intended PCV inlet nipples. :?:

The strange hose look slike they where intending to help balance vacuum between the carbs a little more. If it helps any is hard to tell, with the plenium cross over it shouldnt need it.

Does anyone stock this intake where it could be bought without a long delay getting it. I would like to buy one and do some testing.

I bought one at Offyparts.com two years ago at about $250, but they are just topping $400 there now, whic seems a bit high. Summit has a ship date in about a month for $300

Myeahh...looks more to me like the installer didn't know what to do with the PCV system and so connected the two carbs' PCV nipples to each other and disabled the PCV altogether :-(

Agreed.

Well here's an overhead of it, not sure where the PCV is going honestly:

Another question, is it worthwhile to clean up intake castings so they are smooth? Here's what mine looks like:

Image The runners look a little better, but still kinda rough.

I have the aforementioned ProLineFuel Dual Weber steup on an Offy intake. It came ready to bolt on, I've never had a problem with the linkage. I don't think that ProLineFuel is still doing business though.

ProLineFuel are gone, IIRC.

I wouldn't spend (waste) time smoothing the exhaust heat pocket/loop in the intake manifold, and I'm not sure if it'd be helpful, harmful, or neutral to have an intake like this extrude-honed to smooth the insides of the runners.

PCV on that installation pictured appears to be going to nowhere. :-(

Wow, $400.00 is way to much for this intake. I noticed Howell Automotive shows it for around $250.00, but its hard to tell how long it would take to get it. I havnt talked to them though to see what they say.

$300.00 at Summit would not be to bad if they have the linkage to go with them. The more I look at the pricing of good intakes and carb setups the more I keep looking at EFI. A super six intake with a old holley two barrel gutted and turned into a throttle body would flow plent of air being it didnt have to flow the fuel.

I guess if you keep your eye on E-bag you could pick one up sooner or later. I kinda need something now though myself and I dont really want to run a four barrel. I think I will call Howell tomarrow and see what they say, if they cant get it to me quick maybe Summit will have them soon.

Howel does seem to have the lowest advertised price. Another source is Exeter Auto (Exeterautosupply.com). These guys specialize in Offenhauser parts. Last time I checked they had the 5041 in stock for $265.78.

Jess,

thank you Howell was where I bought it not offyparts, and it did come with the linkage, etc. They took a while to deliver, but I think its just a low production item.
