Today I finished the swap with a Holley Model 2305 Staged two Barrel...

Since the Staged Two barrel uses transverse linkage unlike it's 2300 and 4150/60 cousins... you have to make something 'work' for the throttle cable... in this case a trip to the junkyard and a quick twist of a unibit along with a Acc. Cable bracket from a Breeze/Cirrus (and some quick use of an angle grinder, a vise and some tools)...

I still have to dial in the jets a bit, the 'stock' settings from the factory were a bit 'lean' (and oddly, the throttle body has the same bore size as it's 500 cfm brother...), so tomorrow I'll jet up and take a morning cruise... with the lean-ness at the moment I've got all the power the BBD gave me, but is a bit more responsive when WOT is engaged at least now the vacc. gauge tends toward 0 at WOT instead of '3' like the BBD...

I should also thank Reed Speir for the carb (and I think Sam Powell who sold it to him before), these are no longer easy to find (and not as 'quick' to tune like the 2300, but it's shaping up)

I've wanted one of those carbs for some time, but since I have an Offy dual manifold I think I need two. :? I didn't know they have annular boosters. Should work great once it's dialed in.

Nice work! Throttle cable setup came out nice and clean, as far as I can see.

EGR still functional? Does this carb have provisions for vacuum spark advance?

Follow ups...

The EGR would be functional if I had a port for it...
The carb has 3 ports, vacc. all the time (good for a gauge), ported Vacc. (hooked to distributor), and the PCV port...


The throttle cable actually came out of a FWD Fifth Avenue/Lebaron (there were a few to pick from... it was the only one that still had the 'throttle' link like carb cars, but a bracket/grommet like the minivans/K-cars/Breeze/etc... (I kind of wish there were more K-cars out there as they have a reallly nice long throttle cable that actually worked great for the hyperpak manifold....)

After calc'ing the jet size needed, I see that they assumed that this monster would be used in some capacity that the 8" PV would be close to activated most of the time... time to swap up to something in the 60's for the primary and something in the mid 60's for the secondary....

I'll be darned. I thought I recognized it. The accelerator pump is the thing that was the most troubling. There is a slight dead spot upon initial throttle opening that causes a slight miss upon initial throttle opening. Also, be aware that the cam for the pump can slip out of place and leave you non functional. Take a flashlight when you go out at night. Or better yet, try to figure out a mod that will fix the entire thing.

The problem is that the throttle shafts rotate in a direction 90 degrees from the motion of the accelerator cam, and not parallel as in a standard carb. I am sure you can work that out. Put on your thinking cap.

I think I'll have to play with the choke a bit (it sticks a bit during warm up and the 'kickoff' looks to be modified by a previous owner...), but the jetting is now 64 in the primary side and 67 in the secondary side, and that seems to work best for power and driveability (67 and 72 were too rich) ... Since the heat riser still works I think the manifold is baking the carb and boiling the fuel in the bowl a bit so I may have to resort to using a 'thick' gasket for the adaptor to Holley side of things...

I set it up so the primary is 'outboard' and the secondary is inboard, since the throttle plate open to the 'middle' of the carb, that way at cruise all the cylinders get a 'fair share' of the A/F mix and when the secondary opens it's still pretty central to the plenum (unlike the Hpak car where the throttle plates on the 4 barrel all open in one direction...)

It definately is much better, and has good power running up the hills in 3rd!

This car usually 'launches' with no scratch, it just 'goes'... today Ceej came up for some LBP rims I just scored at pick a part, and it was cold, so it died when I came to a halt at the stop light... but it lit right up and actually caught a load of scratch at 3K letting out the clutch!!!!

Sorry Ceej!!! didn't mean to squeel at ya!
