Good on you mate!

The Ausies used a 43* valve seat on their late sixties slants combined with a higher lift cam

I am toying with the idea of buying a seat grinder, assuming I can find a decent one for a reasonable price.

It has been years since I have used one, and then only for valve jobs using stock size valves. I have had all my other engines done in shops with modern equipment, so cutting for oversize valves was not any kind of issue.

So, my question to you guys who have been doing this on your own with stones. How bad is it making the bottom 70 degree cut for oversize valves using a grinding stone?

Yes, using stones to open-up under the seat angle is a pain. I usually take my die grinder to that area first, and grind-out as much material as possible before using the stones.

The big problem is that a 60, 70, 80 degree angle on a stone wears fast, you have to constantly dress it. Once you have the stone(s) initially cut for this work, it is pretty effective... if you do the die grinder or home made cutter "rough-out" work first and follow-up with the stones.

Thanks for the reply. I can deal with that. It would be nice to be able to do both the porting and seat work at home.
