Thanks for the info, no matter how much I know about engines I know you can always learn more. I was under the impression that not only does the electric pump helps stealing the power off the cranks, but did a better job cause the wired the pumps right in no belt. Maybe that was just for the v8 and it would explaing Doc's situation with sticking forward more. Either way I already have an electric fan installed with my Megasquirt and will look at doing this for the next extreme build.
So just to clarify all the ones listed above will not work with a strip/street/autocross car? Only a quarter mile at a time?

There are 3 kinds of pumps:

...the inline ....unknown quantity for me.

The moroso style that uses the stock pump and a little electric motor and belt drive....easy to install....not very long lived. See picture a couple of posts back.

The Meziere style used on V8s....thats what I have for a sbc(Proform)...it replaces the stock pump with a new casting (aluminum) that has a built in electric motor. That is what Doug wants to build for a slant. It requires a casting(or billet machined housing) to bolt to the block and house the pump and motor.



Here is the Proform for SBC....see how the casting is engine specific?

Nope, my imagination is lacking how that it going to work I need additinal pictures or explanation. I was looking at summit and saw a bunch of stuff. I assume that last setup bolts over the old water pump and replaces the pulley with the electric pump? Well, that's at least my idea for what I need to do, some of these motors look pretty weak, do they hold up? I mean the bushing eventually fries correct? So it would be more worth my time to find a stronger electric motor and adapt it (we got extra washing machine motors, jj)?
So the motor is attached directly to the casting, so if we got the motor we would have to cast our own housing. Or is there a way to connect the motor instead of the pulley (once again to much width). Last would a gear setup work better than the pulleys, or once again the internal bearings won't take it.
